Citron lets you save custom controller settings for each game. This solves game-specific quirks, like Captain Toad’s blue dot in docked mode, by applying tailored controls per title. You’ll save time and skip repetitive tweaks every launch.
Why You Need Profiles
Different games demand different setups. One title might need motion controls disabled. Another might require specific button mappings. Profiles store these preferences so you’re not reconfiguring every session.
Think of it like saving your car seat position. You set it once, and it’s ready when you need it. For a deeper dive into customizing controller settings, check out our step-by-step guide to configuring controllers.
Creating Your First Profile
Access the Settings
Open Citron. Click Emulation → Configure.
Set Up Your Controller
Pick Controls from the left menu. Adjust buttons, sticks, and handheld/docked mode to your liking. If you’re configuring motion controls, make sure to calibrate the sensors for precise gameplay.
Save It
Hit New. Name your profile something memorable, “Handheld Mode” or “Captain Toad Fix” works. Click OK twice to confirm and exit.
Applying Profiles to Games
Open Game Properties
Right-click your game in the main window. Select Properties.
Assign the Profile
Open the Input Profiles tab. If you don’t see it, try stretching the window a bit or flip through the tabs using the arrows. Once you’re there, pick your controller profile from the Player 1 dropdown.
If you’re setting up couch multiplayer, just do the same thing for Player 2, Player 3, and so on.
Real-World Fix: Captain Toad’s Blue Dot
Docked mode adds a blue targeting dot in the center of the screen. It’s distracting and unnecessary in handheld mode.
Create a profile set to handheld mode. Apply it to Captain Toad. Launch the game. The dot’s gone.
Managing Your Profiles
Editing Existing Profiles
Go to Emulation → Configure → Controls. Pick your profile from the dropdown. Make your changes. Save.
Deleting Profiles
Select the profile you want to remove. Click Delete. Confirm when prompted.
Setting Up Multiple Controllers
Create separate profiles for each player. Assign them individually in the game’s Input Profiles tab. Player 1 gets one profile, Player 2 gets another.
